The Cultural Counselor of Iran in France informed the French media:
French media:  Do not distort the term ‘Persian Gulf’

Foreign service, Ashkan Khosrowpour:  The Iranian Culture Counselor in France warned the French media to use the correct name of ‘Persian Gulf’.
According to Mehr press, Mohammad Tabatabai wrote a letter of protest to French media, namely La Monde, Figaro, and. . . indicating that using the distorted name of A… Gulf, which is recently used frequently, is wrong.  In this letter of protest the Iranian Counselor referred to historic documents and wrote:  “From over 2500 years and with the establishment of the Pars (Iran) kingdom by the Achamenians in 539 BC, upto now, the sea lying south of this kingdom has been called Persian or Pars Gulf.”
In another part of this letter the pretence of not knowing the true name of Persian Gulf was criticized, as follows:  “We can name the works of many famous history and geography writers who have mentioned the name ‘Persian Gulf’, and then you will not be able to continue pretending that you have no idea about the existence so many documents.”
He referred to various circulars of the United Nations Organization and wrote:  “The UNO has also issued circulars with the heading “Use of the term ‘Persian Gulf’, and wrote:  “Your French fellow countryman,  Chavalier Chardon, has mentioned the term ‘Persian Gulf’ in his travel account about Iran, like Victor Adolf Malt Berne, son of the founder of Paris geography Co., who has written in his famous book “Summary of World Geography” about Arabia, the independent state of Sahar which spreads towards the Musandon Cape facing the entrance to Persian Gulf (Vol. No. 3, page 207, year: 1811 AD).
As the last sentence of his letter, the Iranian Counselor wrote:  “Appearance of new governments in the south of Persian Gulf from decades ago, cannot, by any means, justify a deviational and unacceptable system.  Any false name should be considered as damage to international rights because international rights condemn distortion of the names of geographical places.”
