Conspicuous participation of Zoroastrians in the commemoration ceremony
Zoroastrian service, Yasna Yazdani: Participaton of Zoroastrians in Ghasr-e Firoozeh Cemetery on the day of the commemoration of Zarathushtra’s demise anniversary was conspicuous.
Zarathushtra Spitaman, the prophet of Zoroastrian religion, introduced the monotheist creed, 3747 years ago and invited the people to follow “good thoughts, good words and good deeds”.
After 77 years he was killed by his enemies on Khor Izad Day of the month of Dey, equal to 5th Dey (official Iranian calendar), while offering his prayers to Ahura Mazda, and united with his beloved, Ahura Mazda.
Every year, on such a day, Zoroastrians all over the world hold gahanbar ceremonies and visit the graves of their dead.
This year too, Tehran Zoroastrians started the day’s ceremony with Jashan Khani, at 8:30 am, in Tehran Fire Temple.
After the prayers a large number of Zoroastrians mounted buses, provided by Tehran Zoroastrian Anjuman, which took them to Ghasr-e Firoozeh Cemetery.
The sound of prayers recited by the Mobeds and the odor of incense put on fire spread all over the grounds.
From early morning the mobeds gathered in the main hall of the Cemetery and prayed for the souls of the dead (which names were given to them in the morning). All who came to the Cemetery first visited the graves of the dead.
After visiting the graves, everyone went towards the kitchen and received their share of the soup. This soup, like always, is made with the funds contributed by Zoroastrians.
“May the souls of the dead rest in peace” was heard everywhere in the compound.
