Meydiaremgah Chahreh of Gahanbar
Held in ‘Khaneh Narges’, Tehran

Mazyar Nikbakhsh:  In the afternoon of 11 Dey (1 January) Zoroastrians participated in the Meydiaremgah gahanbar in Khaneh Narges hall, organized by Taft & Suburbs Anjuman, resident in Tehran.
This very ancient ceremony started with prayers recited by 4 Mobeds, followed by a speech by Faramarz Pour Rostami, Director of the Anjuman, who thanked the Zoroastrian news reporters for keeping Zoroastrians living abroad abreast with community events in Iran.
Ramin Shahzadi, who has recently joined the mobed order, and is the youngest mobed of Iran, spoke about the chronological system in Zoroastrian calendar and the meaning of each day and its symbols as believed by Zoroastrians, and also about advices that create ‘manthra’ (pure thoughts) on each day.
The participants were entertained with tea, cake, fruit and ‘lork’.
From Mehr Day upto Varahramizad Day of Dey month, equal to 31 December upto 4 January, the Meydiaremgah chahreh of gahanbar is celebrated (mid winter), which is the 5th gahanbar of the year.
Zoroastrians believe that in this chahreh animals were created.
