The day that two women became governors of Fars and Kerman
 
On 6 January AD 1270, Aqa Khan, the Mongol Il-Khan of Iran, (son of Halaku Khan) appointed two women as governors of the two big states of Iran:  Abesh Khatun as governor of Fars and Torkan Khatun as governor of Kerman.
Torkan Khatun was from the Gharakhtaie dynasty and Abesh Khatun from the Fars Atabakan dynasty.  Other designations of that day were:  the position of head of the supreme court (equal to prime minister, excluding marital authority) was granted to Shamsuddin Mohammad Joini and the governorship of Isfahan and Arak to his son, Baha-uddin, and Ata Malek Joini, the famous writer, was reinstated in his position as governor of Baghdad, which he held from the time of Halaku Khan.
