TEHRAN (Amordadnews): A large group of Iranians celebrated Deygan, an ancient Iranian festival, on 20 Dey (9 January). On this occasion, various programs were performed in presence of a large number of Iranians.

Nakhostin Farhadi, President of the Foundation, first referred to a commemoration ceremony that is going to be held on 1 Bahman (21 January) in the honor of Hossein Vahidi, the renowned Iranian scholar, and also explained about the shortcomings of the Foundation, and requested Tehran Zoroastrian Anjuman to provide this centre with facilities to be able to hold such celebrations at an acceptable level.

Ladies wearing traditional dresses entertained the guests.
Kourosh Niknam, a Zoroastrian scholar, was the main speaker of the day. He spoke about the monthly festivals of Zoroastrians, when the days and months with the same names coincide, and about 4 days festival in the month of Dey, i.e., Dey-be-Mehr, Dey-be-Azar and Dey-be-Deen plus Urmazd day.
In part of his speech he referred to 5th Dey (26 December), the demise anniversary of Zarathushtra, and said: “In programs that are prepared for this day not much is done to commemorate his thoughts and views and though much is spent for this day but the result is not what is worthy of this greatest man of history.
Niknam believed that sending tribute to 7 countries on earth (haft keshvar-e zamin) is the cause of fortitude and persistence of Zoroastrians in different parts of the world, and that the Zoroastrian vision is not based on the assumption that a particular part on the earth is holy and should be protected.
